My latest hobby is zine-making. Zines, in a nutshell, are “miniature magazines”; you fill them up like a scrapbook and voila! You are your very own independent publisher! I made my first zine over the weekend; I’ve published it below.
I use zines to cram in all the things that I don’t normally see in magazines, into my very own minuscule version. I’ve always adored scrapbooking since a child, and zines are perfect for cramming all your favourite bits and bobs into your own magazine. As a child, I always tried to make a magazine with friends, but in the end, it always ended up a failure; with just me writing, editing and publishing! Much to my dismay, no matter what I tried, I could never ensemble a magazine without it being a one-man show: I even tried running numerous online magazines/blogs with friends, but the passion was never mutual. I eventually accepted the fact that there was nobody around who was as passionate as I was to create a small-scale publication. After explaining this little anecdote to you all, you can probably all see why zine-making became a rapid obsession for me.
This issue’s Eastern Pearl zine is all about summer, including a decorative moodboard and summer playlist. Feel free to “flick through” the
pages photos and do tell me what you think. I’ll be publishing more zines in the future, and you can find them straight away by clicking the “Zines” button in the banner.
Another little announcement – unfortunately I will not be posting for a while, due to exams and excessive school work; I’m finding it difficult to find time to blog. But do not fret! I will only be gone temporarily and till then you can follow my little anecdotes and updates on Twitter and Instagram.
